There has been plenty of speculation and attention on the Lakers acquiring Orland Magic center Dwight Howard. Howard has been on record as stating that if he had his choice of an all star to pair himself with he'd choose Kobe Bryant. Although Dwight Howard would be nice, he wouldn't address the main weakness for the Lakers last year. The Lakers were and have been killed at the poimt guard position with veteran Derek Fisher. In this new age of athletic players, Fisher has been a liability on defense and hasnt contributed enough offensively to help the team. With Phil Jackson in retirement and Mike Brown is as head coach the triangle offense could be out this year.
Chris Paul would provide the kick needed to revive the Lakers as a championship threat. Paul could not only be the catalyst for the Lakers offense, but could also take pressure off of Kobe as a scorer. Paul could also distribute and become the playmaking point guard that the Lakers desperately need. The Lakers with CP3 with Gasol/Bynum would be better than the Lakers without CP3 and Dwight Howard. If the Lakers could make a play and end up with both, that would be a win- win situation, but not realistic.
