The San Francisco Gold Rush is officially back. Each year a team comes out of nowhere and makes a postseason run. The 49ers may have be that team after a great start with a huge win over the Saints.
Most people expected the Saints to roll over the 49ers, however in the end defense prevailed. The San Fran defense forced Brees to throw some interceptions that helped keep them in the game. An overlooked factor in this game was San Francisco's outside home field advantage, as well as their dominant defense.
The Saints defense was also exposed by 49er quarterback Alex Smith who solidified himself as the starter after his epic performance. Vernon Davis was huge for the 49er offense today including his game winning touchdown grab. With sound play from the quarterback position coupled with solid defense, this team could sneak in as a serious title contender.
