At 5'7 and 175 pounds, Andrew Hawkins isn't the typical size for the average wide receiver in the NFL. Hawkin's size was the main knock on the University of Toledo prospect and kept him undrafted in the 2008. Hawkins story has been very interesting, he is the younger brother of former Bengal defensive back Atrell Hawkins, he shifted to the Canadian Football League to play for the Montreal Alouettes; was also a reality TV star runner-up on Michael Irvin's "Fourth And Long" series. Hawkins signed a 2 year contract with the St. Louis Rams and was later let go and claimed by the Bengals off waivers. Hawkins was cut by the Bengals earlier in the season and was reclaimed then called up from the practice squad after a injury to slot receiver Jordan Shipley. Hawkins continued to fight his way on he team and once given his opportunity, he continued to show up.
Hawkins made the most of his opportunity in his first game action against the Bills snagging in two receptions for 43 yards. Hawkins has made clutch receptions for quarterback Andy Dalton including his five receptions and 56 yards receiving game against the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Hawkin's role in the Bengals of fense continues to expand after his performance last week against the Ravens. Hawkins hauled in four receptions for 47 receiving yards. Hawkins may be small, but he has made a huge impact to extend drives in the clutch for this young Bengals offense. If Hawkins solid play continues, he could gain even more reps at the slot receiver.
