Alex Smith has been the epitome of consistency this season as the leader of the 8-1 San Francisco 49ers . Smith has been far from Aaron Rodgers this season, but has been able to manage every game for his squad this season. Some where shocked not to hear Blaine Gabbert's name called when the 49ers were on the board early in the 2011 NFL Draft. Jim Harbaugh believed in Smith when everyone began to doubt that the 2007 no.1 draft pick would even return to the team. In an offseason with a lockout , rookie head coach Jim Harbaugh felt comfortable with handing the reigns of this team back to Alex Smith. Harbaugh also made the crucial decision to return the 49ers back to the West Coast offense. Smith has played at a very efficient level with a quarterback rating of 95.8, eleven touchdown tosses; only three interceptions. Smith hasn't done much as a gun slinger , but he continues to win football games which is all that matters at the end of the season.
